How to fix leaking wall mixer tap cartridge?

Hi. My Grohe bathroom wall mixer taps drip occasionally. I was going to remove the cartridges and give them a clean with vinegar as a first go to see if that will fix it. If that fails, I will replace the cartridges which a pain because they seem to be an order-in item. I have two questions - is what I said the right way to go about it and can I do this cartridge clean or replacement myself under the new plumbing regulations in Victoria? Thanks

Re: How to fix leaking wall mixer tap cartridge?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @MCMelb. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about fixing a leaking tap.

Cleaning the cartridge might resolve your issue, but typically, a leak is caused by a failed washer in the cartridge, which would require replacement. It might be worth giving it a go, though.

The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) oversees plumbing work and trade practices across Victoria. Plumbing is tightly regulated in the state, and unless you're a licensed plumbing practitioner, you're only legally allowed to do very basic tasks—like replacing tap washers. However, if you've come across new plumbing regulations to the contrary, it would be worth reaching out to the regulatory body (VBA) to confirm whether the work you propose is allowed.

On the VCA website, there's an article on Know the building rules before you try DIY. There, it states, " Plumbing maintenance that can be carried out by everyday Victorians is limited to small jobs, such as fixing a leaking tap.".

Please let me know if you have any questions.
