How to fix leaking washing machine tap?

IMG_0538.jpeg

Can anyone please advise me on if I need a new tap, hose or washer for the washing machine hose that runs into my cold water tap? The tap won’t close properly and continues to leak so I have the water turned off at the mains. When I turn the mains on I am losing about 2 litres of water in 20 mins. Or can I swap all the parts from the hot water tap as I don’t use hot water to wash

Re: How to fix leaking washing machine tap?

Hello @DanielleS

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your washing machine tap.

If the water is coming from the hose, its likely that the damage is on the hose itself. Washing machines have solenoids that stop water from entering the drum of the washing machine. Generally speaking, even if the tap was malfunctioning and the hose was intact there would be no leak. But because the hose leaks it is a good place to start with your investigation.

It could be the flat O ring inside the washing machine hose head. It's possible that there is a crack on the hose head assembly or the hose body. To save you having to go back and forth from the store, I propose replacing the hose with a new Kinetic 1.2m Washing Machine/Dishwasher Double Ended Inlet Hose. This will address the possibility of a damaged hose and will prevent further leaks even if the tap is leaking.

However, once you remove the washing machine hose and the laundry tap keeps dripping then its safe to say that the taps jumper valve has deteriorated and needs to be replaced.

Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How to replace a tap washer

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
