How to fix mixer tap top falling from base?

My mixer tap "top" (not sure of the correct word) keeps falling from its base.

Quite dangerous as the tap is in my shower,so it's painful if it hits you on the way down.

The top has a handle, which screws in and touches the plastic bit on the cartridge.

The problem seems to be that the screw is not long enough, so the top is never secured.

any leads on how to resolve this ?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your mixer tap handle.

You'll notice on the second picture that there is a threaded grub screw that travels from the pin handle into the slot where the handle sits onto the shower mixer itself. I suggest removing the pin handle by turning it anticlockwise. If the handle and the grub screw are integrated, it should take it along with it as you unscrew it. But if isn't you'll need to use an Allen key to remove the grub screw. Your objective is to remove the pin handle so that when you push the circular part of the handle itself it will slot all the way in.

Once the circular handle is sitting deeply into the shower mixer that's when you put the grub screw back along with the handle. It will then properly anchor the whole handle to the shower mixer. I've placed a sample image below to give you an idea of how deep the handle should sit into the mixer tap on your wall.

excellent forum Eric, i appreciate any guidance i can get.

i completely removed the grub screw from the pin handle, placed the "top" back over the base, hand tightened the grub screw into the base.

Then i tighened the pin handle. It seems more secure than before, but time will tell.
