How to fix or replace rusting shower tray?

Hi, I have this old bathroom tray which is rusting. The shower drain has also rusted. Any ideas how to fix it or is it easy to replace it?

Any waterproofing requirements?

Is it possible to fill it with screws, waterproof and tile over top to bring it level with shower screen?

If the rust spots are only surface level only it will be possible to rejuvenate your tray using Rust-Oleum 946ml White Gloss Tub And Tile Refinishing Kit. The key to a successful rejuvenation is to make sure that the metal tray is fully prepared and free of rust and debris before using the refinishing kit.

However, if the rust has eaten through the tray, it will be necessary to replace it. Due to its complexity and involvement, I suggest engaging the services of a builder to disassemble your shower and replace your shower tray.

Yes, it is possible to remove the tray bring up the drain and tile the floor. However, this will involve removing all the tiles, adding more material to your shower try area so that it is level and the re-application of waterproofing to the wet area. Once the waterproofing has cured the shower area can then be re-tiled and your shower re-installed back to its old location. Please note that this will require a builder and a registered waterproofing agent as their work needs to be sighted and signed off.

In regards to replacing the tray it all depends on the size of your current tray and its configuration. It would need to be similar in size shape and waste location. It would be best to speak to your builder regarding the tray replacement. There are a number of trays you can look at on the website, please note that they are acrylic and not porcelain steel like your current tray.

Thanks, looks like the easiestnoption would be to clean the rust and go with the rustoleum product. Does this product offer some waterproofing as well?

And I assume the rusted shower drain can be replaced easily?

The Rust-Oleum 946ml White Gloss Tub And Tile Refinishing Kit provides a waterproof surface once it fully cures. I propose sanding down the shower waste and painting it as well. The shower waste is often anchored onto the shower tray and can't be easily removed. It requires the shower tray to be removed so that you have access to the bottom of the tray and remove the fixing nut of the waste. As I've mentioned earlier, taking your shower apart is very involved.
