Re: Pop up plug

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @LUFC. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about pop-up plugs.

Does the plug fully screw back into place? If it's not popping up as it should, you can try this: unscrew the chrome push button off the internal mechanism, then screw the internal mechanism back into place. Once it's properly screwed in, you can screw the button back on. This might help get everything back in alignment.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Pop up plug

Hi Mitchell, i put the plug in the drain of the bath and it just sits in the hole and when i press it nothing happens and i have to get pliers to get the plug out.
Is there something missing in the internal plug hole?

Re: Pop up plug

Hi @LUFC,

Do you have a photo of the plug hole that you can upload?

Can I also see the bottom of the pop-up plug? Is there a thread or screw mechanism of any kind?

It's certainly possible that a small part is missing, but it is difficult to say without further investigation.

I will happily assist further once I can see these things.

Re: Pop up plug

Hi @LUFC,

Thank you for the additional photos.

It doesn't seem like the drain hole plays much of a role in the operation of the mechanism.

When you push down at the location I've indicated above, is there resistance, and then it locks into a position?

Try pushing down and rotating it. Does it lock into a different position? Do the fins on the shaft move in any way?

It seems like everything is there; we may just have to tinker with it a bit.

Allow me to tag @Dave-1 and @Nailbag to see if they have any ideas.

Let me know what you find.

Re: Pop up plug

Good Morning @LUFC

I just googled "Bathtub push operated plug" and came up with a bunch of similar looking units to yours,

I would actually take it into a plumbing trade supplier, mostly because tho similar there seems to be a LOT in the different types of push button plugs.

Mainly I suspect something may be missing from the center bottom of it. That brass circle that @JacobZ has circled, can that be wound up or down at all? If you take it into a trade place they may recognise it straight off the bat and taht will help in sorting out the issue.

Re: Pop up plug

Hi @LUFC

I would pop down to the local plumbing supplies trade desk and see if they can shed any light. Those guys will be across a wide range of types of activators and fitments.

Re: Pop up plug

Hello @LUFC

I suggest pressing the pop-up plug to the open position while it is uninstalled just to make sure that the spring still works. If it does not work, please visit your local store to look for spare parts for your pop-up plug. Pop-open the plug several times just to make sure that it properly works. Install the pop-up plug into the bath in the open position. Once the plug settles in properly test the plug to make sure it pops open and close.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
