Hi,
I need some opinions on how to secure the top shower frame from getting loose. Everytime I open and close the shower door, the corner of the top frame is sliding in and out the track. Another issue is that the glass panel has shifted away from the panel and creating a gap.
I want to find out what is causing the issue and what should I do to fix it?
Thanks in advance.
Hi @sunnymay,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
I'm going to need to see more of the door to suggest a solution.
As the issue relates to the movement of the door, the hinges are the main thing we should look at.
Can I ask for some photos of the door from further back, some closeups of the hinge and if possible, a photo of the top corner aiming down.
It's likely that the hinges have shifted or something has been bumped out of position that needs to be reset so everything lines up.
Once we can identify what has shifted, I can offer further guidance.
Let me know how you go.
Jacob
Hi @JacobZ
Thank you for your response.
Here are some additional photos as requested. I hope it helps.
Hi @sunnymay,
It's still difficult to tell, but it seems like the top of the frame at the wall is not fixed in place, meaning when the door opens and closes it can move freely and is pulling it out of the channel which is attached to the wall.
If you look around the frame, specifically where it attaches to the wall, can you see any screws or fixings, or holes that looked like a screw was once there?
If so, can you take some photos and upload them?
Please be careful as glass always has the potential to shatter. Wear gloves, long protective clothing, enclosed shoes and eye protection when you are working around glass to limit the risk of lacerations.
Let me know what you find.
Jacob
Hi @JacobZ
Yes that's correct - the top frame moves sideways when door opens and closes.
I searched around the frame for any screws, fixing or holes but couldn't find any.
Would it fix the issue if I drill a new hole and put a screw to secure the moving top frame to the vertical frame mounted to the wall?
Hello @sunnymay
Just a friendly reminder that working with glass is dangerous, an accidental hit with a tool or when too much force is used could cause the glass to break and shatter causing injury. Please make sure to wear personal protection such as gloves and goggles when working with the glass.
In this particular situation, I suggest engaging the services of a shower installer. The glass panel must be put back in professionally so that it does not pull out again. I suspect that there is a fixing method that we are not seeing along the length of the aluminium channel. I don't recommend drilling a hole to hold the channel in place as it was originally fixed in place before it became loose. Plus, there is also the possibility of accidentally drilling into the glass as it is difficult to estimate where it might begin inside the aluminium channel.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
