Hi,
I'm looking for a suggestion to how to fix my laminate benchtop that has white marks on them. When the benchtop is wet they aren't there however when the benchtop drys they reappear. Do you have a suggestion how to get them off please? They are on multiple places
Hello @littlefi
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your laminate benchtop.
What you are seeing are white water marks in the laminate surface. These usually appear when moisture has penetrated slightly into the top wear layer or when the laminate’s finish has gone cloudy. The fact they disappear when wet but return when dry confirms it is a surface issue rather than a stain in the wood below.
Here are some approaches you can try, starting with the gentlest and safest:
First, clean the surface thoroughly with a mild dishwashing detergent diluted in warm water and a soft cloth. Wipe and then dry completely to make sure it is not just soap residue.
Second, try applying a small amount of white vinegar mixed with water (equal parts) on a microfiber cloth and gently buffing the area. This can sometimes clear up mineral or soap film.
Third, if the marks remain, use a small dab of furniture polish or mineral oil rubbed in with a soft cloth. Often, replenishing the surface with oil helps mask and fill the cloudy patches. Wipe away excess so it does not leave a greasy film.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
Thanks! The mineral oil worked!
I left it on for a couple of hours.
