How to fix wobbly toilet seat?

I have a wobbly toilet seat (one with the hidden fixings, cannot access underneath the toilet seat). I have watched so many YouTube videos but cannot find anything similar. I have removed the toilet seat, this screw will not tighten. Every DIY video I come across shows a screw fitting with a plug, which this one clearly does not have, I’m unsure how I’m supposed to replace this? The screw will not come out of the black part.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your toilet seat.

Your toilet seat fixing is sometimes referred to as a blind fixing because you can't see the bottom nut that fixes the seat post into place. Please do not try to remove the bolt that is currently holding seat post in place. If that part comes out, you'll need to buy a full assembly or a new seat. The only way to recover the part that fell off is to disassemble the entire toilet suite.

Let me try and guide you on how to re-install your toilet seat.

Position the seat post (the stainless-steel part) towards the open bowl. Keep the assembly loose and do not tighten the screws.
Get your seat and push the seat back onto the seat posts until it clicks or locks back into place.
Jiggle and slide the seat into its proper position, don't worry about the black plastic part of the seat post moving, it's suppose to do that.
Once you have the seat centred and in its proper position use your Philips screwdriver to tighten the screws in the seat post assembly.
Test for movement and if its still loose tighten the screws further.
Once movement is minimized remove the seat and re-install the seat post covers (stainless steel cover caps).
Re-install the seat.

Hi Eric, the screws won’t actually tighten. The metal anchor under the porcelain that the screw is in just rotates around. Is it supposed to be fixed to something within the toilet?

One technique you can try is to lift the post fixing off the toilet bowl and tighten the screw at the same time. As you lift the post fixing it will hold the nut in place as you tighten the screw it will slowly bring the post fixing down to the surface of the bowl. Because you've mentioned that you can't remove the screw the odds are very good that the nut is still attached to the screw, it just needs something to hold it in place as you turn the screw.

It looks like the screw may be threaded crooked and that may be part of the issue. Do you know how long the screw is? If I loosen it then tighten it will I lose it in the toilet?

The screw is approximately 60mm++ long. If you look at your first photo you can clearly see the nut assembly holding the screw in place and preventing it from being pulled out. You just need to get the nut closer so that it engages. I suggest using a BBQ stick to serve as a wedge or holder to keep the nut in place and prevent it from moving which is your main goal. If you manage to loosen it too much it will fall inside the bowl.
