Hi team
we are considering our next project in the bathrooms, toilet and laundry. They are all tiled floors, with a single tile around the wall at the floor level. We’re are considering ripping up the cc tiles and going back to just having concrete. What’s the best way to do did and how do I have the stress waterproofed. Suggestions or guidance welcome. I’m in NSW so have to use a licensed weather proofed. Thanks
Hi @Glassy,
Thank you for your question about waterproofing a concrete floor.
My understanding is that typically, polished concrete floors in wet areas are created using two separate concrete masses. A foundation slab is poured, and then a waterproofing membrane is applied over this slab, following all of the relevant Australian and New Zealand standards. After this membrane is applied, a second concrete slab is poured atop the membrane and then polished as the finished floor.
Considering you will need to speak with a licensed waterproofer, I'd suggest consulting them about the best way to go from a tiled floor to an exposed concrete floor while fulfilling all waterproofing requirements. They will be able to assess your bathroom and give you practical steps to achieve this.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
