How to install a shower drain on a concrete floor without digging into concrete?

Hi there,

I'm converting an empty space under a house, somewhat like a basement, into a self contained bedroom.

I'll be installing a small ensuite style bathroom with a shower.
The flooring is polished concrete (20+ years old) and I'd like to tile the shower base.

My question is, can i install a shower base on top of the concrete slab without digging into or penetrating the slab for the waste?

The waste can be position at the rear of the base against an external wall which will allow me to run the waste water pipe directly out the wall.

I'm thinking i might be able to build the base up a little and find a low profile side draining waste?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello @Jayco

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about space conversion under your house.

If you have the proper allowable space underneath your house that allows you to install a raised base for your shower, then yes, it is possible. The shower base will require a Saniflo pump, these pumps are designed to carry away wastewater, toilet waste and grey water. However, before you begin, I suggest engaging the services of a builder who can measure the space under the house and will be able to tell you if a shower is allowable and what you need to do to convert it into a bedroom.

Please note that there are many rules and regulations in regards to converting a space into a proper dwelling. Make sure your builder has experience in this kind of build.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
