How to install dishwasher in laundry

PXL_20220222_233150389.jpg

We have a tiny kitchen and the laundry is right next door so are thinking of installing a dishwasher there. We have a single tap + power point so would that be fine to use for both washing machine and the dishwasher? I presume it would be possible to split the water for both but would appreciate advice on what attachment(s) I'd need to do so. There are two drainage holes in the laundry sink so probably wouldn't need to combine drain hoses with the washing machine/dishwasher.

Re: How to install dishwasher in laundry

Hi EricL

I have the same situation and I have attached the Nylex Two Way Manifold and it leaks ? Between the tap and the manifold no matter how tight I twist it. I also have plumbers tape around the tap. Why would it be leaking ?

many thanks

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Kristie1984. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about attaching an adaptor.

The connection between the adaptor and the tap does not require thread tape, though I understand why you've added it if it leaks. Was there a flat rubber washer inside, similar to the one I've pictured below? There should be, and that's what seals the connection.

If an adequate amount of thread tape was added, I'm unsure as to why the water would still be able to bypass it and escape in that area. Are you using a tool to tighten the adaptor or your hands? Hand tightening would likely not be sufficient to compress the tape and form a seal. Try using a set of multi-grip pliers to tighten the fitting.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: How to install dishwasher in laundry

Hi Mitchell!

thanks for the quick reply!
yea it has the rubber washer inside, exactly like that.
I tried with no plumbers tape first and it sprayed out like a sprinkler, then I added the tape and it just drip leaks now, I tightened with my hand first then pliers, but when I try and turn it the whole thing moves….. maybe I’m just not strong enough

Re: How to install dishwasher in laundry

When you say the whole thing moves, are you turning the lower section or the section I've marked in the image, @Kristie1984? Are you able to grip the section I've highlighted with pliers? Are the type you're using capable of getting their jaws around the fitting and gripping it? Multi-grip pliers are the best for this type of thing as their jaws open very wide.

If you turn the whole lower section, it doesn't necessarily tighten the top fitting to the tap; it might just spin.
