How to make U-shaped cut on drawers to fit U contours ?

Hi guys,

Doing bathroom renovation.

We just bought 1800mm vanity and the vanity came without precut U-shaped loop. The vanity came with U shaped Contour though. Supplier said the product does not come with precut because they let customer to cut according to their need. I need to have the U-Shaped at the centre of the top two drawers.

I have Jigsaw : https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-18v-jigsaw-pxjss-600-skin-only_p6290477

How should go so that I don't mess it up. What else tool I need to make it look good? Please give some advice. I have used Jigsaw before few times and don't want to miss any professional advice.

P.S. : Supplier is happy to provide their own (pre-cut) drawers, but their U cuts (on both top drawers) do not lie at the center of the drawers, hence this does not solve my problem. Hence I have to take some chances.

Thanks a lot.

Re: How to make U-shaped cut on drawers to fit U contours ?

Hi @Sugar,

Considering you already have a jigsaw, you are well on the way.

If you have sawhorses, use them; if not, find two surfaces of equal height that you can sit the drawer between. Use some clamps to lock it in place.

You can apply some painter's tape in the shape of the cutout to reduce splintering. Mark it out carefully, using the cut-out as a guide and make sure you are in a comfortable position with the cut at a good height and position for you.

Take it slow and don't be afraid to stop and adjust yourself or the work piece if you don't feel comfortable.

It would also be worth having a quick practice on some scrap material before you move on to your drawers to ensure you are comfortable with how the jigsaw reacts and you're confident in yourself.

Remember to trust yourself. I am sure you'll do a fantastic job.

Good luck!

Jacob

Hi @JacobZ  I am going to give it a go tomorrow.

Do you think any white paint should be okay to use in the cut out sides to protect from water ingress into ? Supplier said I should use some king of barrier.

Thanks

Re: How to make U-shaped cut on drawers to fit U contours ?

Hello @Sugar

For thorough protection from moisture, I suggest using Crommelin 1L Flat Aquablock Waterproof Primer Undercoat and Dulux 500ml Vivid White Aquanamel Semi Gloss Interior Exterior Paint as topcoat. This should be more than enough to protect the cut section of the drawer.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
