Hi team bunnings
We recently got our bathrooms renovated and the tradesmen failed to tell us to swap out the drains for new ones.
Is there anything we can to polish these up please?
I cant bear to look at them any longer.
Thanks
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @jenjmurph89. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about shower drains.
It looks like the original satin finish on your bathroom drains has worn off over time, exposing the base metal beneath. Unfortunately, if that surface coating is gone, polishing won’t bring back the original look—there just isn’t much left to polish.
Instead, a good option would be to paint them. You could lightly sand the surface with 240-grit sandpaper to roughen it up, tape off the surrounding area carefully, and then apply a coat or two of an epoxy enamel spray paint. This type of paint is designed to stick to metal and offers a durable, attractive finish.
That said, it’s worth noting that even epoxy enamel isn’t specifically designed for wet, humid conditions like a bathroom floor, so longevity can vary depending on how much water exposure the area gets. Still, it should improve the look significantly in the short to medium term.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
