I’ve hit a snag. Can’t find a new laundry sink to fit the bench top cutout. Contemplating options: re-surfacing. It’s a faded peach colour and ACRYLIC.
can you refinish an acrylic laundry tub successfully. Can a layman go it? Any thoughts appreciated.
Hi @thenewchapter,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
Yes, there is a solution that you can use that requires very few tools and some basic D.I.Y. skills.
I'd recommend the Rust-Oleum 946ml White Gloss Tub And Tile Refinishing Kit.
The process is relatively simple and is outlined in the Technical Data Sheet.
Start by removing the drain and any metal hardware. Remove any mould or mildew with a bleach-based cleaner, then rinse thoroughly. Then give it a good clean with some Gumption Paste and a Scotch-Brite Scourer Pad to remove any stains or leftover grime. Once dry, give the surface a sand with some 400 Grit Wet And Dry Sandpaper, then vacuum the surface to remove any remaining powdery residue. Immediately before painting, wipe the surface with a microfibre cloth to remove any dust.
Once the cleaning is done, it is as simple as mixing part A with part B and mixing for 1 minute, then applying it to the surface with a brush or short nap roller like this UNi-PRO 100mm Little Ripper 5mm Nap. Apply 2 coats, waiting at least an hour between.
Make sure you create adequate ventilation by opening doors and windows, and wear a mask as the formula can have some strong fumes.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
