How to regrout shower floor?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice regarding the grout on my shower floor. The grout is looking discoloured, and I’ve noticed that in some areas near the edges, which touch the shower walls, the grout has worn down by a couple of millimetres.

Would it be okay to just regrout the edges, or would it be better to regrout the entire floor, even though the rest of the grout is in fairly good condition, aside from some colour discolouration in patches?

The original grout used in the shower was Davco Sanitised Riverstone grout. I’ve come across Davco’s ready-to-go grout called Thunderbolt, which seems to be a similar colour to Riverstone. However, I’m unsure whether it will match well enough to avoid looking mismatched.

Are there any other ready-to-go grouts that would be suitable for this project, or is regrouting just the edges a viable option?

Thanks for sharing your question about regrouting your shower. I believe that the Davco 1.7kg Thunderbolt Rejuvenation Grout is a much darker colour than river stone. In regards to regrouting, I suggest removing the surface grout with a QEP Professional Grout Saw. This will remove the contaminated surface grout and dig lower to the grout that has not been affected yet. But because you've lowered the grout line it will be necessary to refill the surface.

This is the part where the Thunderbolt rejuvenation grout comes in. It's not necessary to dig out all the grout only a space of 1mm depth. However, just keep in mind that it will be a darker colour and if that is not an issue then you can use that product to fill the grout lines. But if you are critical with the colour of the grout then the old grout must be removed completely before refilling it with river stone grout.

My best advice is to seal both the tile and grout with Davco 500ml Sanitized Tile And Grout Sealer. This will prevent the tile and grout from immediately getting tarnished by mould and mildew.
