Re: How to relocate a laundry

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Moonysm72. It's sensational to have you join us and many thanks for your question on relocating a laundry.

Since you're looking to move your laundry and add a quick standing shower into your backyard area, the first thing you’ll need to do is plan out exactly where you want everything to go. You'll need a flat, level area with access to plumbing (water supply and drainage) and power for your washing machine and any lighting.

One way to achieve a quicker build is to consider using a small prefabricated shed as the base structure.

You'll also need to factor in proper waterproofing for the shower area, just like you would for a normal bathroom. For the laundry side, you can install a compact tub unit and a space-saving stacked washer-dryer if needed.

Because plumbing and waterproofing work needs to be done to a certain standard (and signed off by licensed trades for insurance and safety reasons), it would be a good idea to get a plumber and possibly an electrician involved early in your planning. That way you can be sure everything is safe and up to code.

Since you mentioned you have a ready budget, it might help to visit your local Bunnings and speak with the Special Orders desk — they can help you find options for modular shower cubicles, compact laundry units, and building materials to suit your space and timeframe.

Whilst you're there, you can also speak with our team about our design services.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: How to relocate a laundry

Hello @Moonysm72

Are you planning on extending the bathroom outside to that small extension where you have your plants? Do you wish to build something self-standing in that location without having to break down the walls of your home? If you can please tell us in more detail what you originally had in mind in regards to the look and arrangement of the extension perhaps we can offer more ideas.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric

Re: How to relocate a laundry

Thanks Eric

Yes I am looking to build something self-standing in that location without having to break down the walls of my home.

I am hoping to have help in extending the bathroom and add laundry penchtop.

Re: How to relocate a laundry

Hi @Moonysm72,

I'm sorry, as I presumed you wanted a more temporary solution. Regarding the relocation of the laundry, the first step will be to build an extension to accommodate it. I'd recommend you enlist the services of a builder to have plans drawn up for you to submit to the council. Given that you're creating an exterior addition to your home and it will include a shower, deeming it a wet area, the build will need to comply with construction codes. A builder is the best place to start with this.
