How to remove a shower curb?

Hi,

I'm wondering if you can tell me the best approach to removing this shower curb. I thought it was going to be solid, but its actually U-shaped with metal running through the middle.

Can you please also tell me whether it is normal for concrete to have visible fibres sticking out?
