How to remove a stuck tap handle?

Hi. How do I take out the handle of these spline 1/2 turn tap? I managed to open a similar one (not spline 1/2 turn). But this one - I can't even make a movement on the top handle cover! The whole spindel shaft turns with it and already lost its threads. Any experiences out there?

The regular tap and the 1/2 turn tape are identical in theory so you are on the right track.

Above the hand grip is a hex shaped nut that needs to be undone then the hand grip will come off straight upwards (slight tape with screw driver handle end?) Stop the tap handle turning grip it. Top nut wont be on super tight ,

Next the body should unscrew using multigrip tool ( Giant pliers lol ) but wrap paper 5 thicknesses around if first or a tea towel with a few layers so chrome tap not damaged. This maybe allready loose given your tap assesment .

Underneath would be a brass nut that also un does this will allow you to lift out the ceramic/metal valve stem that goes inside the inside of the tap.

@Jewelleryrescue has already given some great advice that should help. Are you finding that everything has seized?

Turning the cover nut off shouldn't be too difficult with the use of an adjustable wrench wrapped in a rag to minimise damage to the chrome.

Soaking the tap, specifically the nut with the cold label on it, in CLR 750ml Ready To Use Calcium Lime Rust Remover might loosen things up and allow some movement if it has seized.

Once this cover is off, there's a good chance you can just lift the handle off, but I'd have to see what you find.
