Hi, I tried to fix leaking basin water tap with YouTube. When I tried to remove a handle, middle plastic part was broken and I cannot take the plastics out. I want to fix or replace handle. What can I do and what do I need to buy? Thanks you very much.
Hello @mynote
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your basin mixer.
Just to cover some of the basics of basin disassembly the handle is kept in place using a grub screw. The grub screw needs to be taken out with an Allen key. If you've taken out the grub screw, the only thing holding the plastic post inside the handle is calcium deposits from the water which acts like an adhesive. I suggest using long nose pliers to hold onto the plastic piece and see if you can twist it out.
The ceramic cartridge is held in place by a large brass locking nut which can be removed using a large shifter. Please make sure that your mains water is turned off before you remove the large brass locking nut. I suggest bringing the ceramic cartridge to the store to make sure you get a similar cartridge. However, if the plastic piece can't be removed from the handle, I propose replacing the entire basin mixer with a similar tap such as the Mondella Cadenza 40mm Chrome Swivel Basin Mixer WELS 4 Star 7.5L/min.
I also recommend checking out the stores Tapware & Shower Head Installation Service especially if you are looking for a professional to install your tapware.
