Hi , I’ve just purchased a new ceramic tap set for my shower and can’t remove the locking nut from the spindle
Hello @Nickimc
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your ceramic spindle.
I propose putting a shirt at the bottom of the ceramic spindle and holding that smooth end with a Craftright 250mm Multigrip Pliers and use a standard Craftright 150mm Adjustable Wrench on the locking nut. Your goal is to hold the bottom of the spindle steady and prevent it from turning but not using excessive force. You just need to hold it steady while you use the wrench on the locking nut turning it anti clockwise. Once the locking nut comes loose unscrew it by hand the rest of the way.
Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1, @AlanM52 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

When something like that is tight or frozen I usually try and break or crack the bond with a swift action.
Multifunctional Self-Locking Pipe Pliers
Apply pressure and strike the end of the handle with the palm of the hand.
Please post some photos.
Cheers
