Hi,
We've got Mondella 100mm Concerto Stainless Steel Square Floor Grate in our shower. Link.
How do I remove this to clean the inside?
I can't lift it with my hands, there is caulking / concrete sort of stuff surrounding it.
Is it meant to come off?
Water drains slower now and I'm afraid there's hair blockages that needs removing.
Hi @user123,
It looks like when the tiles were grouted, the installer also filled in the groove around the edge of the drain grate—this groove is meant to be left clear so you can remove the grate for cleaning. Unfortunately, if it's been grouted over, the grate will be stuck in place.
To remove it, you’ll need to carefully cut or chip out the grout around the edge of the grate. Use a utility knife, grout saw and take care not to scratch or damage the stainless steel. Once the grout is cleared, you should be able to lift the grate out—either by hand or gently levering it up with a flathead screwdriver or a similar tool.
If you're able to lift it first, even just a little, it can make clearing out the grout around the edges easier. Once it's out, you should be able to access and remove any hair or buildup inside the drain, which should improve the flow of water.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
