How to remove this toilet paper roll holder?

I've been trying to do some small scales renovation for my new home.

I plan to remove this toilet paper roll holder and replace it with a new one. Initially I thought there will be a tiny screw for me to remove so that I can take the holder down. However, it seems that there is none! I tried to pull it out a little bit - only finding 2 whitish ?plastic toggle attaching the holder to the drywall.

Any thoughts?

Re: How to remove this toilet paper roll holder?

Hi @sisimon510,

You're correct that a small grubscrew would typically lock the holder onto the wall bracket. If there is no screw, then it might be some type of 1/4-turn locking mechanism. It appears like the bracket might be held onto the wall with a nylon Wallmate-style fixing. Have you tried unscrewing the whole holder anti-clockwise? Pulling slightly on the holder whilst unscrewing might create enough friction to unscrew the fixing from the wall.

Thanks Mitchell.

I tried to unscrew it anti-clockwise today, but it was so tight that eventually the whole thing comes off...

If I plan to buy a new toilet roll holder, and just in case these 2 holes can still be used, what sorts of hallow wall anchor should I be using?

Or should I just fill the holes with joint compound, and drill new holes for the new toilet roller holder?

Thanks!

Re: How to remove this toilet paper roll holder?

Hi @sisimon510

I'm glad you managed to get the toilet roll holder off. Did you get to find out if it was a twist off feature or was there something holding the toilet roll in place?

In regards to the new toilet roll holder, I recommend filling in the holes and finding a new spot for the new toilet roll holder. I suggest using UNi-PRO 500g Multi Purpose Interior Filler to fill the holes.

Please make sure to tear off a small piece of the paint near the holes so that you can show it to the paint specialist when you have your paint colour matched.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Is it a good idea to use toggle-bolts to attach the new toilet-roll holder using the existing holes?

Re: How to remove this toilet paper roll holder?

It would be better to use spring toggles if you attempted to use the existing holes @Ronb1949. They'll grip the back of the plaster better and prevent the fixture from being pulled off the wall.
