Hi. I'm wanting to paint a textured bathroom wall. It's already painted but is flaking. Do i need to strip it? And how do I do that? I've never done any painting.
Hi @SmithChr,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
Can I trouble you to upload some photos of the wall? This will help myself and our members assess the situation and offer you advice that is specific to your circumstances.
When you say it is textured, is that from a render? Or is it a textured paint?
It's not always necessary to strip the paint if it is still well adhered, although as you've said it is flaking, then there's a good chance you will need to strip some paint. Depending on what the surface texture is like, you might be able to use a paint scraper to remove the flaking paint, but I would need to see it to give you great advice on how to go about this.
Once the flaking paint has been removed, give the surface a good clean with sugar soap to remove surface contaminants.
You would then prime the wall with Dulux 1Step Prep Primer, Sealer & Undercoat before overcoat with a bathroom paint like this Dulux Wash&Wear +PLUS Kitchen & Bathroom.
When I can see the bathroom, I can offer more specific advice, but this is the basic approach I would follow.
Let me know what you think.
