I had an oyster light removed and downlight installed. It left some minor holes and a larger hole (3 to 4 cm). What would be the best approach to patching this up? It is a plasterboard - quite old.

I'd suggest using a Pfeiffer 15cm Plaster Repair Wall Patch with some Gyprock Less Mess Multi-Purpose Joint Compound to cover the patch.
