How to repair skylight hatch?

When I open the skylight with the handle it slips out of place. Looking at it, it seems there is space for a “pin” of sorts to keep the clasp in place. Where I have drawn the orange line. Can anyone point me in the direction of where I would find this? Thanks

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Does it look like it's missing something like a hinge pin?

If so, could you give us a rough diameter of the opening?

You may be able to just put something like a Connector Bolt or a small piece of Steel Rod through to allow for regular operation.

Hi @obepum

The window connector has a steel ball within each side that rolls and grabs the centre tongue of the articulated wider arm. I suspect due to age that one or both balls are either seized or in need of adjustment.

Start with a light spray of WD40 into each side then wipe clean the excess. Then there is hopefully a flat bladed screwdriver adjustment on the outer sides to adjust the ball tension.

Wind each side in very slightly to increase the grab tension.

Howdy @obepum,

That is not the usual winder to window connection.

Here is regular (Whitco) window winder that I used to make a pocket hole jig.

Most of those winders usually connect to the window via a hinged brass plate with slotted screw holes.

Simply back off the countersunk screws and lift up to disconnect.

I am pretty sure your winder uses a spring loaded double ball catch.

Check the tension adjustment screws they will likely need to be wound in a bit more.

I have a box of those, my preferred cabinet door catch.
