Hi all, I have a question about the Brasshards 1/4 turn mini cistern tap (I/N: 0570250) recommended by Eric in another post. I’ve just replaced an older cistern tap with this model after I added some panelling behind the toilet. I used maybe 6-7 turns of plumbers tape on the threads but the new tap is slowly leaking at the wall flange.
Do you have any tips for getting a tight seal? Should I just take it off, clean up the threads again and try once more, maybe with more plumbers tape? Or is a washer required where the tap is screwed onto the 20mm wall pipe? My concern is that adding the panelling (9mm thick) has reduced the amount of pipe protruding from the wall and that’s perhaps causing the issue, but there is still about 10mm of thread available above the wall surface.
Appreciate any tips you can provide to get a nice watertight connection ![]()
Hello @AS19
You've done very well with the cistern tap replacement. If you are still getting leaks from the brass wall outlet, I propose removing the old thread tape and using the next type of thread tape which is the FIX-A-TAP 12mm x 8m Blue PTFE Thread Seal Tape or the Kinetic 8m Grey Premium Thread Seal then finally the FIX-A-TAP 12mm x 10m Grey PTFE Uniseal High Density Thread Seal Tape which is the thickest of the three.
A technique you can try is to wrap the tape twice at the front and slowly move to the back applying the last three rolls. Just keep in mind that the high-density tape is quite thick so just use sparingly.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
