hi we have a dripping shower head and need to replace a tap washer. After removing the tap cover we are not sure what to do next? There is silicon around the base of the tap spindle. How do we get to the washer from here? Hopefully the picture below is clear enough.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Leesh. It's amazing to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about changing a tap washer.
You’ll need to carefully cut away the clear silicone around the base of the spindle — a sharp utility knife or blade works well for this. Once the silicone is removed, you’ll be able to see and access the retaining nut on the spindle. This can be undone using a tap spanner. Once the spindle is out, you can replace the washer, reassemble the tap, and then reapply silicone to keep water from getting behind the fitting.
Here's a helpful guide: How to replace a tap washer.
