I’d like to replace my shower head and bathroom sink taps but unsure if they are all interchangeable (assuming no)? I’ll get a plumber do the actual changes, but wondering what should I be considering (eg measurements etc) before I buy a new head/sink taps?

Congratulations on your first home — such an exciting milestone! It’s great that you’re thinking ahead about updating your shower head and bathroom taps.
When it comes to interchangeability, I understand it can feel a bit confusing, but the good news is that these fittings can definitely be changed. Your shower head is usually the easiest — it simply unscrews from the wall fitting, and most new shower heads will screw straight onto the existing pipe. If you want to get hands-on, there’s a helpful guide here: How to change a shower head.
For the basin taps, any standard basin mixer tap can be swapped out, but this part does require a plumber to handle the plumbing connections safely and correctly. One thing to keep in mind when choosing your new tap is the length of the spout — you want it to be a similar size to what you currently have so water doesn’t splash outside the basin. Beyond that, the style and finish are totally up to you and your personal taste!
You’re doing all the right things by planning ahead, and with a bit of help from a plumber, your bathroom refresh will be looking fantastic in no time. Keep up the great work!
