How to replace shower mixer?

I wanted to replace the shower mixer, but leaving the original mixer body. The cartridge is 40 mm diameter so I bought the Mondella Cadenza 40 mm. The sleeve have two different thread diameters one slightly smaller than the other. The sleeve end that screws into the mixer body is slightly smaller, while the other sleeve end screws in perfectly. I can't find many 40 mm shower mixers out there or even just the sleeve. Any ideas on how I can proceed?

Thanks in advance!

Re: shower Mixer

Hello @danil22

Thanks for sharing your question about your shower mixer. Your idea of changing your shower mixer with a new one but leaving the original body in the wall is clever thinking. However, you have run into one of the things that the manufacturers have not yet settled on or standardized and that is the sleeve thread location and pitch. Shower mixers on the outside have more or less settled on standard sizes that range from 32mm all the way to 50mm diameter shower mixers. This also standardizes to a point the ceramic cartridges used on the shower mixers.

In theory there is a very good chance that the handle on the Mondella Cadenza will fit the 40mm cartridge of the old shower mixer. According to my analysis you should be able to use the same body fitting and brass locking ring along with the cover flange of the old shower mixer. You can then take the wall flange and handle of the new shower mixer and fit it onto the old set on your wall. This is on the condition that the body of the old mixer is the same size as the new mixer. A bit of testing in regards to size and shape will need to be done, but I'm optimistic that there is a high chance that it will fit.

Re: shower Mixer

I am not in luck. It needs to be matte black, and the existing one is chrome. Also, to remove it I kinda scratched it pretty significantly. DO you think it is worth trying another 40 mm cartridge set to see if it fits? It needs to be 42 mm thread. For a funny reason, the Mondella I bought is 42 mm one side and a weird 40 mm the other. I just need both to be 42 mm to be screwed in properly.

Thanks!

Re: shower Mixer

Hello @danil22

My apologies, I was under the impression that you had purchased a chrome finish. At this particular juncture, I propose holding back on testing another cartridge as there are just too many variables as I mentioned regarding the non-standard sections of the mixer. I believe that it would be more cost effective to engage the services of a plumber to install your preferred shower mixer.

The other option of course is to paint the existing body in matt black to match the other pieces that you have. I also suggest having a look at this discussion - Spray painted tapware by @lifestylebymari
