How to restore a Laminex benchtop?

Hi and thanks in advance for any assistance.

We have recently removed several layers of paint from tiles and laminex benchtop in our powder room - probably installed late 80's early 90's.

While not patterns or colours, I would choose today - I am not planning to change them for some time due to cost, and as they are in great condition.

We are now repainting the doors and then changing over the taps.

My question is regarding the few white spots on one part of the laminex - these disappear when wet, but I cannot clean them off, any idea what may have caused this and is there anything I can do?

It sounds like the white spots on your Laminex benchtop could be remnants of old paint caught in the texture or tiny imperfections on the surface. Since the bench was previously overcoated, it’s challenging to determine the exact cause of the spots or if they predate the paint. It’s possible these spots were one reason for the original paint layer.

To try removing them, you could gently rub the spots with fine steel wool or a non-abrasive cleaning pad. Just be cautious, as too much pressure can scratch or dull the surrounding Laminex. You might also consider using a mild cleaning agent to see if that helps lift any residual paint, but do a patch test in an inconspicuous area to avoid any potential damage.

thanks for the response.

Sadly the steel wool has not worked - when you say non-abrasive cleaning pad, so you mean something like a Scrub Daddy?

I have tried all the liquid cleaners that I have.

That could work @anner. Just a scrubbing pad but one that isn't so coarse that it scratches the surfaces.
