How to seal bathroom door and window architraves?

Hello,

Our recently renovated bathroom has new window architraves installed but some part of the old architraves was retained. The retained part had some paint chipped off during demolition - see photos. The new architraves are pine wood and pre-primed.

Also, our existing door was trimmed to size at the top, with bare wood showing -

see photo.

How can I seal the bare wood? I have already organised the oil paint since I know the colour and type of paint used previously.

For the architraves, start by sanding the areas where paint has chipped to blend them with the surrounding surface @JerseyBlue. 180 grit should be fine for that. If there are any deeper chips or gaps, you may need to apply a small amount of timber filler, then sand it smooth before painting. Once prepared, coat the architraves with your oil-based paint. For the window sills, lightly scuff the existing gloss paint to remove any sheen and so the new oil-based paint adheres properly.

For the bare timber on the top of your door, the correct approach is to simply apply two solid coats of your oil-based paint. This will seal the timber fibres and prevent moisture from penetrating.

Can the bathroom be used in the meantime? The shower is in the opposite corner and we have good ventilation, can the moisture create any issues?

It's fine to use @JerseyBlue. You just don't want to leave the timber exposed for several months. It's good that you've noticed, as most people wouldn't be aware until a couple of years later, when the door starts to deteriorate due to moisture ingress.
