How to seal bathroom floor tiles?

I have grey bathroom floor tiles that get a white build up that’s possible to clean.

How do I remove this and what is the best sealer?

Re: sealing bathroom floor tiles

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Kate55. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about sealing tiles.

The white buildup you're seeing could be either efflorescence or calcium deposits. If you’re able to share some images with us, it would really help our members provide more tailored advice.

For calcium buildup, a common cleaning method is to mix one part vinegar with nine parts water and apply it to the affected area. I recommend testing this in an inconspicuous spot first to make sure it doesn't affect the appearance of your tiles. Leave the solution in place for around 10 minutes, then use a stiff-bristled brush to gently scrub the area. This can often help break down and remove the buildup.

If the issue is efflorescence, it can be a bit trickier to manage, as it comes from minerals being pushed through the tile adhesive or grout from underneath. In that case, cleaning will still help, but you may find it reappears over time unless the underlying moisture issue is addressed.

Once the tiles are thoroughly cleaned and dry, you can help protect them by applying a sealer. I would suggest using Betta TileCare 1l Tile & Grout Sealer. It’s easy to apply and will help reduce future staining and buildup.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
