I'm trying to touch up tapware and shower-ware in the bathroom which are in matte black. Some bits of paint had rubbed off from metal on metal contact in regular use (hand shower), while other bits might have bubbled and then came off on cleaning. They are not huge areas but should be touched up soon to prevent the problem from growing quickly.
I'm not keen on spraying it as the bits are small and scattered, and I'm worried about making an even bigger mess than the present state. Is there an easy, lighter touch way to tackle this fix-up job? I've read some people referring to enamel paint. Could that work ok for these wares in the wet areas? If so what would be some good, easy to use product/s?
Thanks in advance!
Hi @housie,
Let me tag the wonderful @lifestylebymari who created the guide How to spray paint a tap.
I would expect you'll need to remove all the existing paint as it's obviously not adhered well. Painting over the top wouldn't be recommended as it's not a stable surface.
One of our resident Bunnings D.I.Y. experts will be happy to confirm as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Jason
Hello @housie
I suggest having a quick look at this discussion - Can black scratched tapware be repainted? by @Aardit. I agree with Jason's assessment. Painting the chips is not really going to last and it will be very noticeable because the paint colour and finish are different despite them both being black. Eventually the unpainted sections will begin to tarnish and will be very noticeable at that stage. I propose thinking about repainting the entire set.
I understand your reluctance to paint the set. But to give you a better idea of the process, I recommend having a look at this featured project - Spray painted tapware by @lifestylebymari.
