Installing timber stud wall over secura flooring

(First time poster, long time reader!)

Hi

I'm building an ensuite and about to install Secura flooring. I have a timber stud wall that needs to be installed over the Secura flooring. I'm fine with installing the flooring, but just unsure the best method to secure the stud wall bottom plate to the Secura flooring i.e. use screws or nail? fix to the sheet anywhere or only where the joists are?

Note, this wall forms part of the shower recess.

Just couldn't find the exact info to help, so need your wisdom please.

Re: Installing timber stud wall over secura flooring

Hi @Steve8,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

The general rule is that your bottom plate should be fixed into a structural member at no more than 600mm centres using a batten screw that is at least 75-100mm long, depending on what framing you are using.

You should not rely on the fixings going only into the Secura to keep the wall in place.

If your wall is running parallel with the joists, you will need to add blocking prior to the installation of your Secura flooring to ensure there is timber to fix into.

You will also need to do the same with the top plate, so if there are no trusses to fix into, you will need to add blocking.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob
