Hello,
May be a bit of a strange one. But I am wanting to renovate my combined bathroom/laundry. However I am just wondering whether it’s possible to do in stages?
Looking to remove bathtub first and create a walk in shower space only. However I’m not sure whether waterproofing would need to be done everywhere?
Is it also possible to just tile over the top of the existing floor tiles? I have a 15mm drop into my bathroom from the adjoining floor so was just going to tile over the existing floor tiles.
Walls are double brick and no plans to change plumbing.
Hello @brittanydaisy
Technically it would be possible to do your renovation in stages. The tub and tiles can be removed and that section can then be prepared for waterproofing. You'll need to speak to your waterproofing agent to find out how far they will need to cover which includes the flooring. In regards to the flooring, I suggest removing the old tiles as it becomes a weak point in your renovation should you decide to tile over it. You'll never be able to tell which part of the old tile flooring will fail or cause a leak so its best to start fresh.
I propose packing your flooring to increase its height so it will be level to your current flooring. My best advice is to do a shopping list and a jobs list to see what exactly needs to be done. This will give you a better idea of what you'll need to do. I recommend engaging the services of a bathroom renovator to give you a quote on the cost of the revamp. I also suggest having a look at this guide - How to plan a bathroom renovation by @Adam_W.
