The laundry was a total mess with no bench or storage so I used an old bench panel that came from updating my kitchen benches. I had just bought the house and luckily, the old owners had left a few spare blue tiles behind. I only had 10 spare blue tiles so I had to work it out very carefully. I removed just the bottom layer of existing blue tiles and used them to continue the line around the walls above where the new bench was going. I then had a gap below the tiles so I used some smaller white tiles once the bench and a new sink were installed. This left me with a smaller gap where I used tiny smashed bits of the two colours to create a terrazzo style effect linking the blue and the white tiles. I removed the old metal sink/cupboard and a small new cupboard was added under the new bench to give the bench something to sit on and created some storage. Recycling tiles and the bench kept my costs down and the tiling was easy for me to complete. It now looks and works much better with a bench, a cupboard and a new sink. The washing machine and dryer now slid underneath the bench. It is easy to keep tidy now so a win, win!

A tile cutter I have used for years. A grout and glue spreader. A tape measure and a level.
1st step was removing some wall tiles without breaking them.
2nd step was removing the old sink/cupboard.
3rd step was installing the new cupboard and then the bench.
4th step was putting the washing machine and dryer underneath the bench.
5th step was tiling the blue and white tiles.
6th step was tiling with small broken bits of blue and white tiles in between and then grouting all tiles.
Good Afternoon @Wing
Welcome to the bunnings community pages
And man! What a step into the pages with your project! Love the way you have blended the tiles, right down to the terrazzo effect, that is definently something I will file away for future questions! The issue has always been "how to either find other tiles or redo... That blending is brilliant!
With the reuse of the bench and the colouring
Nailed it!
Any chance you have some photos of the terrazzo styletiling as you went? ![]()

Hi Dave, Thank you for your comments about my laundry work. Unfortunately, I do not have any pics of how the terrazzo work went as I was up to my elbows in tile glue as I had to keep working on it as the glue setting waits for no man! I took a couple of extra pics for you of the terrazzo to show you. Just imagine that there is no grout and the black, messy glue is in the background. That is how it looked as I went until I had finished it and I could finally wash my black glue hands clean! The floor is tiled with blue tiles and I wanted to incorporate a little bit of blue on the wall tiling somehow hence the terrazzo idea. Closer up looks a bit rough but the wall doesn't get brushed against.
Great to have you join the community and share such terrific projects @Wing. Looking forward to seeing many more.
Thanks for sharing, I'm sure you will inspire many other community members with your work.

Afternoon @Wing
Thank you for the extra pics, I wa sjust talking about your project and using it as an example to a workmate and then saw that you had responded
hahahah to the covered in tile glue
Yep know that feeling as well but I generally really "really" want those pics
We both thought it looked good, still filing the idea away in the back of my mind ![]()
