Hi, my Gerberit T3 cistern is leaking water due to several small cracks. I the amount of water is not major but I worry that it may get worse. Unfortunately, since it’s an old cistern model ( nearly 20 years old) a replacement is hard to find. Replacing the whole toilet is not an option as we don’t have the budget to replace the floor tiling if the new toilet installation requires it
Is there a cistern that could be installed in place of the T3 Gerberit one? Or could the cracks be sealed? At the moment I’m using some tape and it seemed to stop the leaking but not 100%.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @RgarM. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about replacing a cistern.
Replacing a cistern is considered plumbing work, so it’s something that would need to be done by a licensed plumber. I’d recommend getting in touch with one for a quote—they’ll be able to tell you whether there’s a compatible replacement cistern for your old Geberit T3, whether a new toilet suite would affect your floor tiling, and of course, they can carry out the work safely and legally. You might like to take advantage of our Toilet Installation offer. Simply select your toilet and we'll put you in contact with an installer.
As for the cracks, if you’re able to upload some photos of the damage, our members might be able to offer some suggestions. In some cases, temporary fixes like waterproof tape or sealants can hold for a little while, but if the cracks are in the main body of the cistern, a full replacement is likely the most reliable long-term solution. Let me know if you need a hand uploading images.
If you can also post an image of the suite, we might be able to determine whether a generic cistern would suit it.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
