Hello,
I have a small 1.8 x 1.6 bathroom that currently has no exhaust fan (brick unit built in the 70's). The only way to install one would be in the window glass and wired to the current light switch, the window is 1m away from the edge of the open shower/tub. I am trying to find a suitable product to be professionally installed that will meet Australian standards, is quiet, has on/off function to turn off even when the light switch is on and can be window mounted.
I am looking at this one: https://www.bunnings.com.au/manrose-air-sense-smart-exhaust-fan_p0253209 , would this be suitable to mount in a window in my bathroom? If so is there any other installation kits I need to buy or cover grate to make it look nicer from outside? otherwise open to other suitable product recommendations.
Thank you,
Sarah
Hi @SarahG,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
The Manrose Air Sense Smart Exhaust Fan you are looking at is designed for wall or ceiling installation rather than for direct mounting into a window. It has a duct spigot intended for connection through walls or ceilings and isn’t manufactured as a glass-mount unit, so it would not be suitable for your bathroom window setup.
For your situation, you would need a purpose-built window exhaust fan. These are designed to clamp securely through a hole cut in the glass and come with an exterior cover or automatic shutters for a neat appearance from outside. This Blauberg 150mm White WIND Window Exhaust Fan is specifically designed for window applications and includes a trim and cover system that will look tidy on both sides once installed. A licensed glazier will be required to cut the correct-size hole in safety glass, and an electrician will need to wire the fan.
When it comes to controls, you can ask your electrician to wire the fan to a separate switch so you can turn it off even if the light is on. The electrician will also need to ensure that the installation complies with Australian standards, taking into account bathroom zoning rules from AS/NZS 3000, which set the requirements based on the fan’s distance from the shower or bath and the need for RCD protection.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for your reply, unfortunately that product is not suitable and is double the sound decibels. My sparky said I couldn't get a double switch with how it would need to be wired in.
If there is no way to convert wall exhausts to window installation then it doesn't look like there are any products available that match my requirements.
Thank you for your time.
Hi @SarahG,
Perhaps you could hire a handyperson to create a faux wall/frame on the window to house the Manrose Air Sense Smart Exhaust Fan. It's exceptionally quiet and likely one of the only fans that operates at around 19dB.
