Hi All, I have purchased the Kinetic spout and handle repair kit as I thought these required the special nut with 2 grooves spanner to remove - but I can’t find any kind of way to loosen them?

can anyone provide any information on how to get them off? There’s about 4 pairs of these in the house that have leaking washers

thanks in advance!

Re: What kind of tap removal tool is required for these

Hello @wazzaa

You've definitely got the right tool, but it appears that the hidden brass nut has either disintegrated or has deteriorated and can't be unscrewed anymore. Whatever is left inside is just enough to hold the tap locked in place. Generally speaking, you should be able to see the notched brass nut from the back, but looking at the pictures you posted, it looks like it has totally disappeared. First option is to try and clean the rear of the tap with a stiff brush, water and detergent to see if you can still find the brass nut.

Second option is to cut the tap handles off and replace the spindles with a new set. I recommend looking at the Estilo Chrome Wall Top Assembly Set, Mondella Cadenza Chrome Ceramic Disc Top Assembly Tapware Set - Chrome or the Mondella Resonance Chrome 1/2 Turn Cross Handle Wall Top Assembly Set.

Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How to replace a tap washer

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
