What sealant for shower base?

What sealant for shower base?

I’m installing a Domus living shower base and the instructions say to seal with a waterproof sealant prior to tiling. I’m wonder whether this would be suitable? H.B. Fuller FulaPrene 303 Adhesive & Sealant Grey 300g

Re: What sealant for shower base?

Hi @Daim,

I’ve had a look at the instructions, and I can’t see any reference to sealing the actual shower floor itself. What it does mention is the need for waterproofing beneath the base, and it’s important to keep in mind that the whole floor and shower wall surfaces must be properly cladded and waterproofed. The shower floor itself doesn’t form part of the bathroom’s waterproofing system.

There is, however, a step where the shower floor needs to be sealed to your already waterproofed bathroom floor. For that type of joint, a flexible polyurethane sealant such as Sikaflex 11FC should be a suitable option. However, since both the shower base and the sealant product you mentioned aren’t Bunnings products, the safest approach would be to confirm directly with the supplier for technical advice on compatibility and installation requirements.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: What sealant for shower base?

Thanks Mitchell. You said “There is, however, a step where the shower floor needs to be sealed to your already waterproofed bathroom floor.” yes, correct, this is the part I’m asking about. The instructions just  say “a  permanent waterproof sealant.”

I’ll look into sikaflex 11fc

cheers

Re: What sealant for shower base?

It sounds like Sikaflex would be the best product for that job, and it is typically used for waterproofing joints in bathrooms.
