What waterproof tape for wet sanding prep?

which tape do you recommend to get for sticking plastic drop sheeting on floor where I’ll be wet scraping flakey lead paint off walls. (I know the guidelines for lead paint removal). This needs to be waterproof tape that will sit right against the skirting so will get potentially quite wet, but not necessarily a leak-repair tape so mega-sticky that it leaves adhesive or is too hard to pull off.

Re: waterproof tape for wet sanding prep

Hello @CRC

I propose looking at using the Wrap & Move 48mm x 50m Clear Heavy Duty Packing Tape - 3 Pack. These will resist wetness for a while, but if soaked for too long will slowly start to peel off (you could try a double application). Most of the waterproof tape that I am aware of is the mega-sticky type only.

Just a friendly reminder to please wear personal protection such as P2/HEPA rated overalls, gloves, goggles and face mask when working on your project.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1, @Nailbag and @AlanM52 for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Good Evening @CRC

Mmmm My mind draws a blank. I would go with @EricL's suggestion as I have not had any experience with removing lead based paint.

Re: What waterproof tape for wet sanding prep?

Hi @CRC

The concern will be how good is the paint on the skirting, as any high-quality tape could pull it off even in patches. Other than that, if the packing tape @EricL doesn't work, I would consider something like Gaffa tape. This is what the music, TV and film industry use to essentially tape down everything to anything. It won't leak or become weak during your work and shouldn't leave any residue unless exposed to a hot environment and/or left for days.

Re: What waterproof tape for wet sanding prep?

I was intending sticking into the floor right up to the skirting actually, though am aware moisture will run under them and thinking further, can probably get away with encapsulating those instead.
