When installing bathroom accessories into tile, do you need to waterproof?

When installing bathroom accessories into tile, do you need to waterproof?

I want to add a shelf in my shower so that I can finally get rid of the suction shelves. I read the Bunnings DIY post about how to do it on tiles. I was wondering if when doing it in a wet area such as the shower if I needed to add some waterproofing or something?

Thank you so much in advance

Re: When installing bathroom accessories into tile, do you need to waterproof?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @LaraP. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing accessories into tile.

You'll need to seal your holes and the brackets of the shelf onto the tile. This stops water from seeping into the holes and down behind the tiles. Commonly, wet area silicone is used for this kind of job. When installing the fixing into the tile, make sure you apply a liberal amount of silicone into the holes. It can also help to stick the accessory to the wall with silicone. This creates a gasket, stopping water from getting behind the bracket and anywhere near the hole.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
