Your instructions to install an Estilo SMS 4 lip shower base stipulate a 1:3 cement:bricky sand mix. I have no problem with that but am curious as to why, and not a standard mortar. Is there a special reason Please? Tim
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Homebush12. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about shower bases.
A 1:3 cement to sand mix is stronger and firmer than standard mortar, which is usually 1:4 to 1:6. The extra cement creates a solid, stable bedding layer that won’t move or crumble under the shower base. It ensures the base is fully supported and rigid, reducing the risk of flexing and cracking.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
