A unique finish for a coffee table using colourful crayons. You can create your own by following step-by-step instructions.

The project

Begin by routing your design to a suitable depth of around 8mm, or half the thickness of your board depth.

Break up crayons and lay them in the groove, and then melt with a heat gun.

Scrape back the excess so that the crayon layer is flush with the surface.

Sand with an orbital sander to remove any residual crayon.

Apply Cabot's 250ml Clear Water Based Cabothane Interior Varnish Gloss to finish. Sand and re-coat until you achieve your desired finish.

@Jesse1 Thank so much! It was a really fun project to build and came out better than I was expecting. You could likely use this technique on a variety of different items. Doesn't need to be a coffee table.
