Kitchen pantry cabinet makeover

The project

I purchased these Melamine cabinets from Bunnings to use as pantry cabinets for a coffee station in the kitchen. I wasn't happy with how they had no character, so I made them into something more classy.

Steps

Step 1

Sand all sides to take the shine off the Melamine boards and to create a rough surface. 

Step 2

Create textured door by applying an undercoat of primer paint.

 

Step 3

Apply plaster paste to entire door and smooth out.

Step 4

Use a texture roller to create a pattern. The roller I used is an old roller I already had in my shed. I can't remember where I bought it from, it was so long ago. But I think any texture roller would work.

Step 5

Once dry, stand plaster until smooth and paint with top coat.

 

Step 6

For the sides of the cabinets, I used a paintable wallpaper that was embossed. Prime the sides with undercoat of paint and apply wallpaper, then paint with topcoat.

 

Step 7

Add PVC trim to the sides of the cabinets to prevent the wallpaper from coming off.
