A custom pergola built with painted galvanised steel posts set into concrete and built over a low-level deck.

The project

We designed and built this pergola from scratch and have been enjoying evenings out on our new deck.

Two large bolts are used to attach each end of the 240 x 45 x 5300 and 240 x 45 x 5100 beams to the painted galvanised steel posts. We dug large concrete footings and poured concrete pads to get the correct heights first, and allowed the pads to dry and then set the galvanised steel posts on the pads and cemented in.

Every time we work on a project we learn something new and gain more and more confidence to give a bigger and better project a crack.

More backyard inspiration

Workshop member tom_builds is spending more time with his family outdoors after replacing old brick pavers with a low-level deck and using a Softwoods patio kit to build this covered area, all for around $4500.
