This functional power tool storage and charging station makes it easy to see charging indicator lights and to grab the batteries you need.

The project

Fresh off the high of building my first workbench and with inspiration from a few posts on this forum and videos on YouTube, I decided to jump right in and build my own power tool charging station with some leftover materials (mostly 9mm and 12mm plywood).

I drew up a few sketches, taking note of some handy features from other projects, such as having the top shelf on an angle to see the charging indicator lights and easily access the batteries. I was limited for space, with the wall above my bench only giving me about 50cm in width and 30cm in depth.

It only took an afternoon to cut, sand and assemble, and I only used a few power tools, including a standard drill driver, multi-tool and jigsaw. The leftovers from my workbench, including screws and polyurethane, were enough for this project, so ultimately it was a two-for-one purchase.

I attached some pine to the two wall studs that I could find and then drilled the shelf into it. Because of this, I also had to attach a small piece of scrap pine to the bottom back of the shelf to level it out and stop it from flexing.

I also made a small shelf on the side to store pencils, scissors and so on, but I'm thinking of removing it and trying again. It's a little too wide and once I had coated it with polyurethane, the holes were too small for the pencils. Oops!

To finish it off I'm going to attach a power board to for the chargers to the right-hand side. Of course this means another trip to Bunnings.
