I have two big dogs so I didn't want to reduce the space in our backyard. One dog also likes to dig, so garden beds would only be destroyed. My solution was to build these vertical gardens along the fence-line.
I used 200 x 25mm rough sawn treated pine in the build and coated the timber with decking oil. I screwed the boxes to the uprights and set them at an angle, and then ran 13mm poly pipe along the top and centre beams and connected mist sprays for the in-built watering system. I just have to turn on a tap and my whole garden is watered by a rainwater tank.
A vertical garden can provide greenery and colour to enliven a drab location and provide plenty of growing space in even very small areas. Create your own by following this step-by-step guide which was inspired by Judy's project: How to build a vertical garden.
