I recently purchased a 310 size tube of silkaflex 227 to attach a aluminum drip rail to my camper van.As I have a lot left over can I use it on the roof of my van (aluminum sheeting covering) to run a bead of sealant to replace the old sealant along all the joins as the old sealant is getting a bit weathered. Also run a bead along the mounting backboard of my awning to prevent water seeping down the outer wall on rainy weather which makes it damp under the covered area
Hello @darry1
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your camper van.
Sikaflex 227 is a polyurethane sealant designed for automotive body seams, joints, and panel sealing. It adheres well to many surfaces and is flexible, paintable, and weather-resistant, which makes it good for general vehicle sealing jobs. However, for a campervan roof, especially around areas exposed to heavy rain, UV, and temperature extremes, it is not the best choice long-term. Polyurethane sealants like 227 can degrade faster under UV exposure and may eventually crack or peel, requiring more frequent maintenance.
I propose looking at Sika512, Sika522 or Sika221 all three will need to be ordered at the special orders desk as they are not regularly stocked at the store. These sealants are more in line with what you need as they have UV and weather resistance.
