Love our garage make over to increase storage space & most importantly create a functional space for everyone!
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @lcooksey88.
It's fantastic to have you join us and many thanks for sharing your garage storage project. You have certainly put together a dream garage set up and you should be very proud of your efforts! I'm sure you will be getting plenty of questions from community members about how you went about putting it all together and what combination of storage solutions you used. Personally, I'd like to know what the hook system used for the tools is - they look amazing and easily accessible.
We look forward to seeing more of your projects soon and I trust you'll find plenty of inspiration within the community. Please don't hesitate to post whenever you need assistance with a project or have something to share.
Mitchell
Hi Mitchell,
regarding the peg boards we used the 900x450 pinnacle ones- cut them down slightly to fit in our space, screwed them off to ply board that we screwed to the racking and placed a support bar at the back of the ply also onto the racking. To completed it also painted the ply black. completed the same process for the sides also.
Hi @lcooksey88,
Many thanks for the additional details and congrats on a fantastic project once again.
looks awesome, well done!!!
Hi @lcooksey88, we love your garage makeover and the many innovative ways you have demonstrated for using our products.
Awesome job. Cheers, Pinnacle Hardware
Great job @lcooksey88!!
Can I ask what @PinnacleHware components you used to assemble the workbench, attached shelving and overhead cabinetry?
What appeals to me is the ability to set the workbench at any height rather than the standard 900mm.
Thanks in advance,
Charles
Welcome to the Bunnings workshop community @Charles77.
It's great to have you join us and fantastic to see you jump straight into the conversation. I trust @lcooksey88 will be able to give you details of the products used. Alternatively, I can try to work out from the pictures the exact items for constructing the workbench, shelving and cabinetry. We look forward to hearing about your own projects around the house and garden and I trust you'll find loads of inspiration for them within the community. We'd encourage you to post any time you need assistance or have something to share.
Hi, the shelving is the rack it 1000kg which we adjusted to our heights then used FJ Laminated tops as the bench. Behind the shelving we screwed a 9mm plywood sheet off, painted it black, ran a support bar along behind it for extra strength then mounted the peg boards & overheads to the ply (pinnacle slimline) Worked out really well in the end.
hope that helps you ☺️
Thanks for the detailed and prompt reply. That’s a huge help 😊
You've done a awesome job @lcooksey88 !
This is something I need to boost my skills in - organisation. I have so many tools that I just don't know the best way to store them all.
It's on my list though. Thanks for the inspo.
That is cleaaann! Very nice
@lcooksey88 - what a brilliant makeover! Enjoy the clean space you have created for yourself.I had a question around what you have used to hang the cleaning tools on the wall to the left of the window. I might need something similar or perhaps take a leaf out of your creation to do something similar in my garage which is not a brick wall but a plaster wall.
Thanks for sharing!
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @ravit. It's great to have you join us and many thanks for your question.
I trust @lcooksey88 appreciates your kind compliment and hopefully can answer your question.
In the meantime, I've located the product Oates 5 Handle Storage Holder which appears to be what lcooksey88 has used to hang the cleaning tools on the wall. I'm sure they can clarify for us if that is the correct product.

Hi Ravit, Mitchell is correct it is the oats holder- works great. I just trimmed it down with the grinder to fit our space. Good luck
Hi @MitchellMc - thank you for your prompt response and appreciate your reference to the products I was looking for.
As much as I would love to complete a garage makeover I haven't thought of it much but certainly starting with organisation of tools in my garage and this kind of leads the way.
Am sure to post how it turns out when done. Just need to find the studs and hook the oates product up and I should be all set.
Hi @lcooksey88
Sorry to comment on a past post, but I love the look of this. I was wondering what height the uprights are?
There's a couple of options. I guess what fits in my garage plus the option of the containers stored on top, but interested in your situation as it looks in proportion.
Cheers,
Sav006

Thanks @MitchellMc
Curiosity got the better of me so I took it upon myself to count the notches (28 from what I can tell) in the vertical bars and figured the height was 2135mm. 😎
2135 uprights.
Let me know if that's not the height @lcooksey88
Great thinking, @sav006! Well, if what you're currently doing doesn't work out for you, at least you know you've got the option of becoming a private investigator. I've double-checked for you and can confirm they appear to be the 2135mm uprights.
wow, that looks awesome. Love the peg board.
Where and what did you get? I want to do the exact same thing in my garage. Love how you found a way to store the mower as well!

Hi @barrydavis,
I've had a look at the products used, and it appears that the following list should provide most of what you need. Hopefully, @lcooksey88 might be able to run her eyes over my list to double-check that I've covered everything and that they are the same products she's used.

I'm about to start something similar, after being told we are by my wife....

Well done and thanks for the inspiration.

Wow that workbench and tool rack wall are outstanding!
Hi @MitchellMc (and others)
What are your thoughts on how the timber panel is secured to the framing of the shelve arms?
I have the MDF shelf currently as worktop but would love to have a nice timber finish like in the setup in this post.
Hard to say exactly from the photos but do you think the OP @lcooksey88 placed this on top of horizontal bars (also of the MDF in my case) or do you think it was cut to size and placed to sit flush along the shelf bars? By the looks, my guess is it is sitting on top of the bars as it seems slightly raised. If placed on top how do you suggest the best way to secure this to prevent it sliding or moving? Not permanently like with liquid nails or something. Screw it into the shelving? Or strong double sided tape?
I know you won't know exactly what was done here but would love to know your suggestions.
Thanks.
p.s. Any simple suggestions to make work surface harder wearing like a clear coat? Or just keep the surface removable to replace/renew if it ever is needed?
p.p.s. I'll post up a thread once my set up is complete based on this inspiration. It's slowly getting there but nearly done now.
Hello @sav006
Thank you for sharing your query about the laminated timber panel as a work surface.
Let me tag @lcooksey88 so that they are made aware of your question. My colleague @MitchellMc is currently on a much well-deserved leave as his family has recently had a new baby. The typical MDF panel used on the RACK-IT systems is usually 15mm thick. The panels you're planning to use are around 26mm thick so they will peek past the steel bars.
The MDF panel is cut precisely at 597mm so it's safe to assume that the manufacturers have given it one or two millimeters of play in order for the panel to fit in. The laminated work panel is 600mm deep, if you slowly plane the timber down you can get a very snug fit. That solves your forward and backward movement of the worktop. I recommend using Zenith 12G x 20mm Galvanised Hex Head Metal Screws - 50 Pack as an example to fasten the benchtop to the steel bars from the bottom. Please double-check the length that you need to avoid drilling past your benchtop surface.
I recommend using Cabot's 1L Satin Clear Benchtop Timber Finish and some light sanding between coats. Because you are using it as a worktop I suggest a minimum of at least three coats for a very tough surface. I suggested satin so that you will not get a high glare from the finish if you have lights directly above your work surface.
We look forward to seeing your work area once it's finished. If you need more information or assistance with your project please let us know.
Eric
